Participa is a business development company that holds investments in several economic segments, especially in shopping centers, and in the energy sector.
Participa's investment approach is characterized by the company's involvement in every stage of the venture: from prospecting and analyzing the market opportunity to consolidating the partnerships that will make the project feasible, and finally throughout the implementation and monitoring of the center's operations.
Since its inception in 1986, Participa has consolidated a broad portfolio of investments in Brazil. The company is a shareholder of a number of companies in various economic segments.
After a brief tenure at Siderúrgica Mannesman (steel manufacturer), Mr. Teixeira worked for 4 years in the financial market, mostly in the development of project related to the Sistema Financeiro de Habitação -SFH (National Housing Financing System). Prior to founding Participa, he started Expansão Empreendimentos, a construction company that developed several housing projects, many of them in association with Companhia Brasil de Seguros S.A. (Assurance Generale de France - Insurance), and Engeplac S.A. (construction). He holds a BS in Metal Engineering from Escola de Engenharia Mauá, and completed post-graduate work in Finance at Faculdade de Economia e Administração - Universidade de São Paulo.
Mr. Ethel initiated his career working in the financial industry. prior to founding Participa, he worked for over 10 years in government agencies such as the Ministry of Finance and Caixa Econômica Federal , Brazil's second largest bank. Mr. Ethel was a board member of some of the most important groups in Brazil, such as Vicunha (an industrial conglomerate), Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional - CSN (steel manufacturer), Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (mining company) and LaFonte - Grupo Iguatemi (retail). He has also been a member of several international organizations, such as the International Savings Banks Institute in Switzerland. He holds a BS in Production Engineering from Escola Politécnica - Universidade de São Paulo, and received his MBA at Faculdade de Economia e Administração - Universidade de São Paulo.
